About
This website is nothing more than a way to distribute my ego across the great void that we call the internet.
Q. What does the name mean exactly?
A. It’s My Electronic conveyance of Nothing in particular.
My name is Daniel Alexander Sniadoski Jr. I’ve gone by several monikers online over the years, but the one that seems to have stuck is CarbonCopy. I have also gained the nick name of “Frenchie” as a professional cook. I think it’s the hat I wear all the time.
I am formally trained as an Industrial Designer. After putting myself over $14K in debt, I’ve never actually worked as an Industrial Designer. I now only use the bulk of those skills for my miniature (habit) hobby.
From 1995 to early 2003, I worked as a full-time web designer and developer, slowly drifting from design to programming. It all started as a way to show off my product and industrial design skills. It quickly spiraled into a way to make money to support my Wife and I, while she went to school.
After that, I took a few odd freelance jobs here & there. Fixing code and building some of my best examples of coding work to date. Full-time jobs I responded to were bogus dead-ends, or contracts that could be terminated at any time. I had become one of the nameless, faceless droves of post dot-com web developers.
Time for a change…
I always loved to cook. My favorite job I ever had was when I worked as a cook at a chain Pizza restaurant in High-school. Throw stuff on a disc of raw dough, and throw it in an oven. Why not? Sure, the pay is low. But I can find a job any time I need it. Sure beets being unemployed for months on end.
Since I had been out of the business for a while, I decided Culinary School was a good idea. It was. I learned a huge amount, and it gave me the opportunity to learn about my own food Polish/Italian heritage, along with discovering a whole bunch of things that I never knew and that excited me.
I learned about sauces, wines, mushrooms and baking bread. I also reacquainted myself with my love for well forged knives.
And then little Basia came into our lives.
Working nights as a professional cook became a very convenient way to remain employed while taking care of my little girl during week days. It’s not easy by any stretch, working 8+ hours and then being up by 8 AM (or whatever time she decides to wake up) to take care of Basia all day. It’s worth it, though.
Over the last 2+ years, i’ve watch little Basia grow from a tiny hatchling on an Ultrasound monitor, to a bouncing - no, JUMPING - two year old girl. She is raised by her PARENTS as a result of the work schedules we have chosen. And I would not have change it for the world.
How would I describe myself now? A person of many, many interests.
I love good food and wine, so I love to cook.
Art and design is still a particular fascination of mine. I still use PhotoShop and Illustrator on a regular basis, mostly to make custom decals for my miniatures or to touch-up and correct scans of family photos.
Technology is also of particular interest. I sometimes “tinker” with the occasional PHP/MySQL application, or a little bit of Flash/ActionScript from time to time. That and creating a new theme for this very website. Nothing serious, mind you.
Let’s just say that, given the right opportunity, I could be coaxed back into a design or development job - for the right price.
